Social Media Coordinator for NCVC

 Cover Letter

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to express my extreme interest in the position of Social Media Coordinator for the Nashville Convention & Visitor Corps. With my experience running various social media accounts, some already targeted toward the Nashville tourism sector, I believe I can bring a personal touch to NCVC’s social media. I know first-hand what it’s like to fall in love with a city like Nashville, and that is the story I would want to tell as part of your social media team.

I believe I am more than qualified to take on the challenge of running the social media account that best represents the city of Nashville, not only because of my skills in the digital marketing world, but also because of my ability to tell a story. My background started in journalism, and throughout my time in college and past jobs, I slowly shifted to the digital media world, finding my place with a camera and social media as my platform

The experience I’ve gained in running social media accounts for The Nations Brewing Co and Big Machine Distillery has helped me understand what appeals to a modern social media audience in today’s landscape. The push for more short form video content hasn’t been easy for many companies, but I believe I have the skills needed to succeed across all platforms.

Just like how I’ve been able to help accounts grow at The Nations Brewing Co and Big Machine, I can help NCVC’s accounts grow as fast as this city seems to be expanding. My background as a photographer, videographer and a writer makes me the ideal candidate for this position. I can create the visuals needed to attract the attention of a wide target audience and I can effectively write copy that accompanies the visuals. By telling the right story, I believe there is no limit to how far NCVC’s brand can grow.

As the Social Media Coordinator for NCVC, I would love to highlight to the rest of the world everything that makes Nashville such a special place to be, whether to visit or relocate to. From the exciting nightlife of Broadway to the shores of Percy Priest Lake, there’s something in this city for a wide range of audiences, and I want to help people find what they’re looking for.

I am a candidate who has in-depth knowledge of social media trends, is creative, and can convey NCVC’s core values. I would want nothing more than to create content that exhibits the pride locals and tourists have for this city. When I was in college, I always admired how the local tourism board’s social media team there was to amplify and display the passion people had for our college town. To do the same for Nashville, a city with such rich history and endless potential, would be a dream come true.

 Social Media Coordinator Responsibilities

Build and execute social media strategy through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification.

I have extensive experience running social media accounts throughout my college and professional career. During my time at The Nations Brewing Co and at Big Machine Distillery, part of my responsibilities included developing and executing our social strategy based on market research. At both jobs, each month, I compiled analytic reports to help myself and upper management understand our strengths and areas of improvement.

Generate, edit, publish and share daily content (original text, images, video or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and stewards the Music City brand.

My current responsibilities at The Nations Brewing Co include pitching social concepts, shooting, editing, and scheduling content that helps the marketing team achieve its goals across five brands.

Create engaging and shareable content, including text posts, images, videos, and infographics, that align with our brand voice and resonate with our target audience.

I currently write copy for all social posts, shoot and edit images/videos, and design graphics to achieve our goals and reach our target audience.

Attend events outside office hours as needed, nights and weekends included, to produce live social media content.

Working as a freelance photographer in the live entertainment world, I am more than comfortable in working hours outside the typical 9-5.

Create and manage a strategic content calendar across social channels informed by trends and platform data.

At The Nations Brewing Co, and during my time at Big Machine, I oversaw our company’s content calendar that helped guide our social strategy each week.

Effectively collaborate with internal teams (PR, Sales, Digital, Paid Media, Promotions, Events, Creative) and NCVC members to effectively market Nashville.

In my current job, I already communicate with other internal departments to make sure we are all aligned in our goals and I am helping other departments to the best of my ability.

Monitor user engagement & respond to comments, messages, and inquiries on each platform in a timely and professional manner, to foster relationships with fanbase.

Each morning, I am responsible for responding to community members in comments, direct messages, and more across five brand accounts. I also spend time on the weekends to make sure story content on Instagram is reshared in a timely manner before it expires.

Research and identify local and national trends to establish viral and data-driven growth tactics and content.

I make sure to stay up to date on various social media trends in my free time to ensure we are effectively using any social trends we can to increase engagement.

Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools and applications.

As a daily user of social media, I make sure to keep an eye out on new tools and technological trends so that we can use them at The Nations Brewing Co to the best of our ability. I have no problem sitting down and putting in the time to pick up new skills whenever a new technology pops up. My favorite tool I’ve gotten a hang of using recently is Google Earth Studio which has helped us create captivating content we weren’t able to previously do on any other platform.

Analyze social media performance using analytics tools to track key metrics, identify trends, and optimize content for better engagement and reach.

Each month, I create analytic reports for us to identify our areas of strength and where we can improve. These reports help myself and upper management understand what content resonates with our audience.

Skills & Responsibilities

Knowledge and understanding of Nashville is a must.

My work at The Nations Brewing Co and past work at Big Machine heavily involves understanding our local customer base and the city itself. In addition to my daily work duties, I also spend my weekends freelancing with local bands or exploring the rest of the city. I’m also an avid subscriber of the Tennessean and keep up with other local media outlets as well. In my free time, I also maintain a Broadway Bars Guide that has been useful whenever my friends visit this city. I’d love nothing more than to talk about everything I know about Nashville so far and spend time learning even more about it.

Solid understanding of social media platforms, their functionalities, and best practices for organic content.

I use Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok on a daily basis to keep track of how the platforms are used differently by users and keep up with how other brands are succeeding on the platforms.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail.

I believe I have excellent written and communication skills to offer as a candidate. Even though I’ve pursued a career path in the digital marketing world, I spent four years working for a student-run newspaper while taking journalism classes in college. Even today, my favorite part of my current responsibilities involve being able to write copy, whether it’s for a new product or a new webpage or just a social caption.

Strong creative thinking, creative eye, and content creation abilities.

I’ve been creating content since I picked up my first camera in high school. I love constantly trying to find new ways to create captivating content for a social media audience. I’m familiar with DSLR/mirrorless cameras, drones, gimbals, and am always happy to create short form video content on my phone when needed.

Proven working experience with social media, marketing, and/or communications role.

I have two years of professional social media and digital marketing experience, in addition to four years of experience gained during my time in college.

Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.

My monthly analytic social and web analytic reports I created at Big Machine and currently create at The Nations Brewing Co have helped guide company goals when it comes to digital marketing.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Throughout my professional career, I’ve been able to take on multiple assignments across a variety of fields, whether it’s related to social media, photography/videography, web design, or more. I have no problem juggling multiple tasks and meeting tight deadlines. I have extensive experience working in live entertainment settings that required content to be turned around at the event or shortly after an event’s conclusion.

Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team setting.

I have no problem creating content on my own or directing a video that requires multiple team members. Most of the short form video content I make in my current job is just me and I’ve also directed a commercial involving 20 cast and crew members that aired on CBS.

Familiarity with social media management tools and analytics platforms. / Social networking experience and social analytics and publishing tools knowledge.

I have experience working with Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, Sprout Social Tweetdeck, Google Analytics, and more.

I’d love to talk more about my experience in social media and everything else I can bring to the table if given the opportunity. Feel free to email me or give me a call at 301.801.1253. I look forward to

A personal note

If you've made it this far along the application, I want to thank you for reading all of the above so far. I believe I've done as good of a job as I can to convince you guys that I know how to successfully run social media accounts, but I don't know if I conveyed why this job stands out to me, personally. If you haven't moved on from this application yet, I'd like to take a second to truly express why I am passionate about this opportunity and a career with NCVC.

I will admit, during my time in college I barely knew of Nashville as a city. At the time, I was in a college town and all that seemed to matter to my world was the 5 square miles that contained all my best friends. I loved Athens, Ohio, like no other city I had ever lived in before. But, before I knew it, it was my turn to say goodbye and find a new place to call home. I graduated into the first summer of lockdown, which didn't make it any easier to find a new city to call home.

Eventually, after bouncing around I landed in Nashville in 2021. I knew right away I was somewhere special. When I was in college, I had dreams of what I wanted to do and ambitions I wanted to pursue. I stopped dreaming after college ended, not sure where I was headed in life. But when I woke up my first morning in Nashville, I realized I was once again in a city where the possibilities felt endless. There's a creative energy flowing through this city that isn't easily found anywhere else and for me, there was no better home to start chasing out whatever dreams I may have again.

Just like how people are passionate about hobbies, I soon realized I was more passionate about Nashville than I ever expected to be. I made it my goal to not only experience as much of the city as I could, but to also learn everything I could about how those experiences are created. My obsession with the operations behind the hospitality industry in this city has certainly paid off many times over anytime I host friends. I've spent many weekends putting together itineraries for friends who have told me they are planning a trip here, and I've loved seeing the smile on their faces as they get to experience this city too.

During the time I've spent keeping up with the scene behind the scenes of Nashville, one name kept popping up in articles – Butch Spyridon. When I first applied to work for NCVC last year, I was excited to have the chance to work on a team lead by Butch. Reading about what he's been able to do for this city has made me dream about being able to do something similar one day. Although Butch has since stepped down, it'd be an honor and a dream come true to work with the team he left behind, and continue to show the world just how special of a place Nashville is.

People like to talk about Austin, Texas as the "it city" of the last decade. And while I think they're right, I also think Austin's peak has already come and gone, and it's time for another city to be at the top spot. I'm excited for Nashville's future and the direction it's headed in, and I think we are more than ready to claim that top spot if we aren't there already.

I believe I'm more than qualified to handle the responsibilities of a social media coordinator, and I'd love to talk more about the passion I have for this city and what I think I could bring to the table for it. To be a part of the team that gets to show Nashville off to the rest of the world would be a dream come true.

 Thank you for your consideration.
